What is done

Seven jobs, done from one van

Each has its own page with the method, what to have ready and the questions people ask. In short:

Three kinds of Novelda

One town, three very different front doors

What a locksmith meets here depends a lot on where the call comes from. Roughly, Novelda has three.

The modernist centre

Round the Plaza de España, San Pedro and the Glorieta, houses from the years when the Casa-Museo Modernista went up, between 1900 and 1904. Heavy timber doors, often with a mortice lock that is as old as the house. They are opened with patience, because the wood is worth more than the lock. More on opening period and armoured doors.

The flats of the 1960s and 70s

According to the land registry, a third of what is built in Novelda dates from those two decades, when the stone trade was growing. Many of those front doors still turn on an early cylinder with no protection against snapping. Replacing it is planned work, booked for a day that suits.

The partidas and the estates

Houses with a gate on a track, under the sierras or out on El Campet, many of them weekend or summer homes. And the units of El Fondonet and Santa Fe: the stone cluster counts more than 40 % of Spain’s natural-stone firms in Novelda. For yards, units and shops, see the page for business premises.

From your call to a locked door

How a call goes

  1. You ring, or send a WhatsApp

Say where you are and what has happened. A photo of the lock and a location pin settle most questions before anyone sets off.

  2. An honest estimate of the drive

You hear how long it will take from where the van is at that moment. No arrival time is promised that cannot be kept.

  3. The door is looked at, then the price is agreed

Once the lock has been seen, you are told what is needed and what it costs. Nothing starts until you say yes.

  4. The work, and proof it was yours to open

Before opening anything, the locksmith asks for something that shows you live there or own it. Then the door, lock or car is dealt with, and you pay by card, cash or Bizum.

The phone is answered at any hour, every day of the year, for lockouts, doors that will not open and cars with the keys inside. Planned work such as a lock change is booked in normal hours. For the middle of the night, see help with a lockout at any hour.

Before anyone has reviewed us

Commitments that hold on every Novelda job

  • The price is agreed after the lock has been seen and before the work starts.
  • Doors are worked through the latch or the cylinder first. Drilling comes last, and only with your agreement.
  • Nothing is opened without something that shows it is yours.
  • No arrival time is promised. You hear a realistic drive time instead.
  • After a break-in, you get a written note of what was found, for the insurer.

There are no customer reviews on this site, and the reviews page says why. Who answers the phone and how the work is done are on the about page.

Where the van goes

All of Novelda, and three towns beside it

The centre and its barrios, La Mola, every partida of the municipality and the industrial estates. Beyond the boundary:

  • La Romana West of Novelda, under the sierras of l’Algaiat, Reclot and Beltrans, with its own village of l’Algaiat. Separated from Novelda in 1929; a town of about 2,600 people with marble quarries in its hills.
  • Aspe Next door to the south, across the Campet. The same services, from the same van.
  • Monóvar North-west, past the Duaime and the Collado de l’Ametler. Town and countryside alike.

The partidas one by one, with the names people use for them, are on the page for the partidas and villages. To reach us, phone, WhatsApp or email.

Questions

Four things people check before ringing

Do you go out to the houses in the partidas, or only into town?

Both. The whole municipality is covered, from the houses under the Sit and the Duaime to El Campet on the Aspe side, and La Romana, Aspe and Monóvar as well. Out in the partidas, the name of the partida and of the house, or a location pin on WhatsApp, finds the gate faster than a street name.

Which locksmith jobs are always turned down?

None of the following is done, whoever asks: keys are never cut or copied, spare keys are never made or supplied, and nothing is done with car keys, transponder chips, remote fobs or ignitions, nor with keys for motorbikes, scooters or vans. With a car, the job is opening the door when the keys are locked inside.

When is the price settled, and how can I pay?

On the spot, once the door or the lock has been seen and before any work begins. Nothing is started until you have agreed to it. Payment accepted: cash, card or Bizum.

My Spanish is limited. Can I explain the problem in English?

Yes. The phone is answered in English and in Spanish, and so is WhatsApp. No other language is offered, so if English is easier for you than Spanish, use it.

Door notes

Worth reading before you need us

  • Old doors, old locks How old is the cylinder in a 1960s or 70s flat?

A third of the floor space built in Novelda dates from the 1960s and 70s. How to tell, from the outside, whether your front door still turns on an early cylinder, and which signs mean it should go.

  • On the road Keys locked in the car off the A-31

Driving between Madrid and the coast, you stop near Novelda and the keys stay inside. What to check first, what to say on the phone, and what a hire car changes.

  • On the wrong side of the door Keys lost on the romería up to La Mola

On 20 July the saint goes in procession between the sanctuary of La Mola and San Pedro, some 3 km, after dark and in a crowd. Where keys tend to go, where to ask first, and when to stop searching.
